The Story Behind Freedom 44 Co.

Hi, I’m Jae.

Freedom 44 Co. began long before my first t-shirt.

I started my career as a tattoo artist in Chicago, Illinois, where I spent my days creating custom artwork designed to tell stories people would carry with them for life. Every piece started the same way—with pencil, paper, and hours of drawing.

When I became pregnant with my daughter, my husband and I relocated to Texas to begin a new chapter. I made the decision to leave tattooing so I could build a career from home while raising her. That journey led me into creating large-scale abstract paintings and handcrafted artwork for collectors across the country.

While I loved painting, I found myself missing the bold lines, symbolism, and storytelling that first made me fall in love with art.

So I picked my pencils back up.

Today, every Freedom 44 Co. design still begins the same way it always has—with a hand-drawn sketch before it ever becomes a shirt, hoodie, flag, or print.

The name Freedom 44 carries a deeply personal meaning.

Freedom represents the freedom found in Christ—the freedom from addiction, shame, fear, guilt, and whatever chains try to keep us captive.

44 represents my sobriety date: April 4th.

That date reminds me daily that my life was changed by God’s grace, and that true freedom isn’t something I earned—it’s something I received through Christ.

Whether you’ve overcome addiction, anxiety, depression, loss, or another battle entirely, my hope is that these designs do more than look good. I hope they start conversations, encourage believers, and remind people that no matter what they’ve walked through, freedom is still possible through Jesus.

Thank you for supporting a small business where every design begins as an original drawing by hand. Your support allows me to continue creating meaningful artwork and sharing the hope that inspired this brand.
